Are YouTube Playables Worth It?
Well, it is that time in my life.
I am a gamer, as are many younger writers. I like games because they are a fun pastime. I usually prefer playing something like Minecraft, role-playing games like Fallout 4, and Real-Time Strategy games like Age of Empires II (the Definitive Edition), but I sometimes check out games on any sort of platform.
What I was always curious about are the YouTube Playables that had begun appearing recently. Are they any good?
Well, I checked out a few of them, and it turns out that many of them aren't up to par to what I expect for a video game, but there are still plenty of enjoyable games out there.
Let's jump right in.
State.io
The first of these games I played. It's definitely fun, but after a while, it becomes a grindy game where you can easily overpower your enemies once you know how many are on the map for each level.
Supreme Duelist Stickman
Easily the most fun out of all those games. yet it kind of feels devoid in fun little aspects. It's at least fun to have a broad selection of weapons and customization skins that are free when you begin the game.
City Smash
It's very fun for a simulator game. If you want to recreate 9/11 with a fighter jet, or demolish a Golden Gate Bridge, then this is something you would probably enjoy.
Planet Smash
It has surprisingly good, lag-free graphics for such a simple game, but it functions not so much differently from City Smash. It does have a planet creator, but too bad there's way to save the worlds you create.
Dan the Man
It's just as fun as Supreme Duelist Stickman. If you like platformers, this is the king of game you would really have fun playing. I wish there was more than just a small number of levels.
Bazooka Boy
It's a very fun destruction shooter game. I just wish you could replay levels. There is really no use to collecting all those coins. Also, it is too easy, even when you have to aim more carefully in some levels.
Stick War: Legacy
This is probably the Playable I would truly consider playing. It is an older flash game that I used to play from a site called StickPage. I'm not sure that site is still around, but that game, like many of the games on there, is a very fun horizonal side-scrolling strategy game. That game is by far one of the most interesting strategy games, and with its epic and gory glory, it seems out of place among the Playables list.
The only downside is that I really wish it would load faster.
Pocket Universe
An agreeable blend of Minecraft with RPG elements. I didn't play it for that long, but I think it is one of the better games on the YouTube Playables.
Conclusion
None of the games are bad, but there's a lot of buggy, simplistic games on the Playables. The best stuff is either from other sites, like Stick War: Legacy, or the rare, promising YouTube exclusive that actually functions enough to have a sizeable fun quotient, like Supreme Duelist. If you don't have a console, or if you are away from home without a console besides a laptop (which may or may not have Steam or Epic Games Launcher) or a smartphone, it is not really worth browsing through the Playables. Another good aspect is that those licensed games can be played without having to worry about the computer viruses that can be found on their original websites.
